Val McDermid – Still Life

Baillie Gifford Borders Book Festival Online 2020
Date
Sunday 23 August
Time 7:00pm

The Queen of Crime returns to the Baillie Gifford Borders Book Festival. Surely one of the most versatile and fertile creative minds in Britain, Val has created a string of detectives and investigators around whom she weaves startling stories that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Cold case investigator, Karen Pirie, finds that her name is associated with the finding of a body at sea and a mysterious disappearance ten years before that. Still Life is vintage McDermid, one for the connoisseurs, but it is also wonderfully well-written – as ever – and many surprises and reverses wait along the way.

ITV has commissioned a series based on Karen Pirie.

Val is a native of Kirkcaldy and divides her time between the East Neuk of Fife and Edinburgh. The writer of radio plays, of theatre, a journalist for many years and the lead singer of Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers (with our own Chris Brookmyre), Val’s versatility is legendary. As is her imagination – and perhaps the greatest testament to that is her passionate support for Raith Rovers.
