Mark Billingham

Mark Billingham in conversation with Chris Brookmyre

Baillie Gifford Borders Book Festival Online 2020
Broadcast Date
Sunday 26 July

A double act that has delighted Borders Book Festival audiences more than once, Mark and Chris have a particular reason to reprise their amazing rapport in 2020. It is a year of 20s when a milestone for Mark will be passed. It is twenty years since the publication of Sleepyhead, his first novel and the debut of Tom Thorne, his quirky, engaging detective. And his twentieth novel will be published in 2020. It is Cry Baby, a prequel to Sleepyhead.

Chris Brookmyre knows a thing or two about writing thrillers. Published almost twenty-five years ago, his Quite Ugly One Morning introduced Jack Parlabane.

Mark and Chris will talk about the business of writing, the fun and the faff of it, the frustrations and the fulfilment. Dark deeds, dark corners and dark motives may be their stock-in-trade but both are bright and brilliant raconteurs, full of humour and self-deprecation – and they are both superb writers.
