From BBC Technology correspondent to freelance journalist and podcaster, Rory has changed direction again with Ruskin Park: Sylvia, Me and the BBC, a moving memoir about his unconventional childhood. All Rory knew was that he was the child of a love affair between two BBC employees. When Sylvia died, he found a file labelled ‘For Rory’. Papers inside revealed her relationship with James Cellan Jones, a gifted director. The file also told much about the centrifugal force at the centre of all their lives – the BBC. On the file, Sylvia also wrote ‘In the hope that it will help him understand how it really was.’ Rory did, and has written an absorbing and poignant account of family and hidden lives.
