The Human Cosmos: A Secret History of the Stars encourages us all to look up. The night sky has fascinated, guided and mystified human beings for millennia. Jo Marchant’s highly accessible account of our relationship with the stars takes us on a trip from the paintings in the Ice Age refuge caves of Lascaux to the prehistoric chambered tomb at Newgrange in Ireland. The story unfolds through medieval monks’ meditations on the cosmos to Albert Einstein’s breakthrough observation that space and time are one and the same. This is a brilliant, stellar piece of storytelling.
