It is 100 years since Eric Liddell won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and as the games return to France, the festival celebrates his life and achievements. Sally Magnusson, the author of his biography, The Flying Scotsman, is joined by Allan Wells, winner of a gold medal for the 100m in 1980. He was asked if his win was dedicated to the last British winner, Harold Abrahams. “No, this is for Eric Liddell” was the reply. Eilidh Doyle, Olympic and Commonwealth medalist, is an ambassador for the Eric Liddell 100 programme and she joins Sally, Allan and Sue Caton, Eric Liddell’s niece, in an event unique to the festival.
