For ten years, Amelia Dalton owned a small ship running cruises to the remote island chains of Scotland’s stunning West Coast, gaining her commercial qualifications as a captain. Now, fresh from touring the Scottish islands she takes on the world and sets out to create expedition holidays with a difference. From Norway to Madagascar, by campervan, taxi, boat and small plane, Amelia hunts down remote archipelagos, deserted beaches and tiny local museums. On the way she survives a hotel fire, a bomb in a palace, being stung by a scorpion and thrown into jail. This is a splendid piece of travel writing – colourful, honest and great fun.
